Rosemary's Strawberry

Backstory:

I was tasked with coming up with a couple of drinks to demo during a virtual happy hour for ARIN 49. The physical meeting was occurring in Nashville, TN in the spring of 2022 so I tried to focus on Tennessee distilleries and spring flavors. This drink works with any bourbon-like whiskey so feel free to use what you like.

Ingredients, Drink:

  • 2 oz Whiskey, Bourbon or Bourbonlike

  • 1 oz Rosemary Simple Syrup

  • 1 oz Lemon Juice

  • 4 oz Seltzer Water

  • 2 Strawberries, medium, quartered

Ingredients, Simple Syrup:

  • 1 cup Water

  • 1 cup Sugar

  • ¼ cup, lightly packed, Fresh Rosemary Leaves

Garnish:

  • 1 Halved Strawberry

  • 1 Sprig of Rosemary

Method, Drink:

  1. In a collins or other tall glass, drop in your quartered strawberries and muddle well.

  2. Fill the glass with ice.

  3. In a separate glass combine the bourbon, simple syrup, and lemon juice. Mix well.

  4. Pour over the ice in the collins glass.

  5. Top with soda water then stir gently with a bar spoon to combine without losing your fizz.

  6. Garnish with a split half of strawberry on the rim and a sprig of rosemary.

  7. Serve with a straw large enough to suck up strawberry bits. This drink has a bubble tea vibe due to the strawberry bits.

Method, Rosemary Simple Syrup:

  1. In a small sauce pan, add water, sugar and rosemary leaves.

  2. Bring to a simmer then remove from heat.

  3. Allow to steep until room temp. Strain and save in a container of your choosing.

  4. Refrigerate for up to 4 weeks.
